Britney Spears’ new Criminal video has premiered, allowing the public to finally see for themselves what all the fuss was about.
Spears strips naked with her real life boyfriend, Jason Trawick, in a steamy shower sex scene for the controversial video for her latest release single, Criminal, which was filmed in Hackney, East London.
In the mini movie, Trawick saves Britney from her violent boyfriend. She then drives off with him on his motorcycle, bonks him, and robs a corner shop brandishing a (replica) gun (in that order).
The video ends with armed police tracing the wanted pair to an apartment before opening fire on them.
Britney landed in hot water with politicians when shooting the Criminal video, as it was in the wake of the London riots. They berated her for supposedly glamourising gun crime.
MP Diane Abbot was enraged to see Spears running around with a fake gun.
“It is only a music video but it's images like this, with pop stars glamorising gangs, which means that some young people... get drawn in. Britney should really know better,” Abbot said.
Councillor Ian Rathbone, of the Hackney Council, said: "I think she should apologise and make a sizeable donation to a Hackney charity that deals with young people for the rudeness and damage she's done to this community."
But Britney’s management hit back, insisting the video was dreamed up long before the riots.
A statement read, “The video is a fantasy story featuring Britney's boyfriend Jason Trawick, which literally plays out the lyrics of a song written three years before the riots ever happened.”
In any case, the video has been a hit with fans. Twitter user, Jonathan Nathanial posted “So impressed”.
Another Twitter user, Ana, wrote: “But Mama I'm in love with a criminal, and this type of love isn't rational, it's physical" Go Britneyyyyy!”
